Amid financial crisis, BSNL gets a new Director Finance

PSU Watch Bureau

New Delhi: In the backdrop of a severe financial crisis at state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) that garnered widespread media attention, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has divested Sujata Ray of the charge of Director Finance and handed it over to Vivek Banzal. The responsibility comes to Banzal at a time when he already holds two key charges. He would now be looking at three key departments– fixed line, mobile and finance at BSNL.

Ray was slated to retire in April. Sources have, however, downplayed the rejig, saying that such realignments are routine. Given that the financial health of the company is in poor state, the post is of immense significance. Banzal took charge as Finance Director in March first week.
