Anil Kumar Jain appointed as new Secretary Ministry of Coal

Anil Kumar Jain was serving as Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and has been appointed as Coal Secretary by an appointment committee on Friday

New Delhi: Anil Kumar Jain is new Secretary of the Ministry of Coal. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared his appointment on Friday, an official press release said. He is currently serving as Special Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

Jain replaces Sumanta Chaudhuri as Secretary Ministry of Coal who is a 1985-batch IAS officer from West Bengal cadre.

Jain is an IAS officer of 1986 batch from Madhya Pradesh cadre. He has more than 30 years of administrative experience in the field and policy formulation levels in various ministries/departments in the state and central governments. He has served the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas as Director and Joint Secretary. He was also involved with policy formulation and implementation on the upstream and downstream development of the gas sector in India.

Jain holds a BA (Honours) in Economics, an MBA, and a Diploma from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. He has published a number of papers and articles on the energy sector, including a book on natural gas policy framework in India (OUP, Oxford). He has been a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Oxford, UK.
