BHEL will set up each charging station with a rooftop solar power plant to supply green energy to fast and slow chargers

New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) will roll out a charging network for electric vehicles on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway, a project covered under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India of the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI). The manufacturing company will set up each charging station with a rooftop solar power plant to supply green energy to fast and slow chargers.

"The project is covered under the FAME scheme [Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India] of the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI), Government of India," an official release said.

"As part of its diversification initiative, BHEL is expanding its footprints in the e-mobility business. BHEL is also executing another commercial order for installation of DC chargers across various locations in the country."

BHEL hopes the move will give more confidence to customers thinking about embarking on inter-city journeys. "The establishment of EV chargers at regular intervals over the entire 250 kilometres stretch between Delhi and Chandigarh would allay range-anxiety among the Electric Vehicle users and bolster their confidence for inter-city travel."

"As part of its diversification initiative, BHEL is expanding its footprints in the e-mobility business. BHEL is also executing another commercial order for installation of DC chargers across various locations in the country," the statement said.

BHEL has also made manufacturing plans for electric buses, EV chargers and other critical components. As part of the 'Make in India' initiative of the government, the in-house development of EV motors, propulsion systems and fast chargers has also been undertaken by the company, it said.
