The backdrop

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave an 'in-principle' nod on November 20 to the strategic disinvestment of five PSUs — Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Shipping Corporation of India; Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), Tehri Hydro Power Development Corporation (THDCIL), and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO).

The decision came as the government is chasing its disinvestment target of Rs 1.05 lakh crores for financial year 2019-20.
