New Delhi: The Centre has given a nod to three out of six corridors of the Delhi Metro's proposed fourth phase, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said. Corridors of Mukundpur-Maujpur, RK Ashram-Janakpuri West and Aero City-Tughlakabad have been approved. Covering a span of 61.679 km, there will be 17 underground and 29 elevated stations in the three corridors.
There will be 25 stations between RK Ashram to Janakpuri West, 15 stations between Aerocity and Tughlakabad, and six stations between Maujpur and Mukundpur
The much-awaited Phase-4 project, which is set to cost around Rs 45,000 crore, was approved by the Aam Aadmi Party in December. However, the Urban Affairs Ministry and the Union Housing had objected to the conditions imposed by the AAP dispensation. The state government had conditions of their own, including the 50-50 percent operational loss sharing.
The announcement comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Noida City Centre-Noida Electronic City section and the Red Line extension of Delhi Metro on Friday.
At present, the operational span of the Delhi Metro, the busiest metro service in the country and the ninth longest metro system in the world, is 327 km with 236 stations. The metro system has eight colour-coded regular lines.
