GAIL’s former CMD BC Tripathi receives ‘Best CEO Award’

Mumbai: Former Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited BC Tripathi has been honoured as the 'Best CEO' in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) category at the Business Today Best CEO Awards. The award was presented by Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan on December 13 in Mumbai.

Tripathi, who was at the helm of affairs at GAIL for over a decade, was recognised as the longest-serving CMD of a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). He had joined GAIL in 1984 as a Deputy Manager and rose through the ranks to hold crucial portfolios like Executive Director (Projects) and Director (Marketing) before taking charge as CMD in 2009 at the age of 49 years. During his tenure as CMD, GAIL earned the coveted 'Maharatna' status, becoming the youngest company at the time to do so. Tripathi superannuated on July 31, 2019. Throughout his career, he championed the benefits of Natural Gas as an environment-friendly and economical fuel. The 'Best CEO' Award recognised his role in expanding the reach of Natural Gas across the country and multiple cities.
