GAIL’s former CMD BC Tripathi receives ‘Best CEO Award’

Mumbai: Former Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited BC Tripathi has been honoured as the 'Best CEO' in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) category at the Business Today Best CEO Awards. The award was presented by Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan on December 13 in Mumbai.

During BC Tripathi's tenure as CMD, GAIL earned the coveted 'Maharatna' status, becoming the youngest company at the time to do so

Tripathi, who was at the helm of affairs at GAIL for over a decade, was recognised as the longest-serving CMD of a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). He had joined GAIL in 1984 as a Deputy Manager and rose through the ranks to hold crucial portfolios like Executive Director (Projects) and Director (Marketing) before taking charge as CMD in 2009 at the age of 49 years. During his tenure as CMD, GAIL earned the coveted 'Maharatna' status, becoming the youngest company at the time to do so. Tripathi superannuated on July 31, 2019. Throughout his career, he championed the benefits of Natural Gas as an environment-friendly and economical fuel. The 'Best CEO' Award recognised his role in expanding the reach of Natural Gas across the country and multiple cities.

GAIL (India) Limited, formerly known as Gas Authority of India Limited, is a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. GAIL is the largest state-owned natural gas processing and distribution company in India. It is headquartered in New Delhi. GAIL is involved in following business segments: Natural Gas, Liquid Hydrocarbon, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Transmission, Petrochemical, City gas distribution, Exploration and Production, GAILTEL and Electricity Generation. GAIL was conferred with the Maharatna status on February 1 2013, by the government. GAIL was listed in the 131st position among India's most trusted brands according to the Brand Trust Report 2014, a study conducted by the Trust Research Advisory. Recently, GAIL also has been awarded the "Project Management Company of the Year" 2019, for successfully completing phase 1 of the 'Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline Project'.
