Govt appoints Sangeeta Verma as acting chairperson of CCI

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday appointed Sangeeta Verma as the acting chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The appointment follows full-time Chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta's demitting office on Tuesday.

Sangeeta Verma is currently a member of the Competition Commission of India. Verma has earlier served as the Principal Adviser with the Dept of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Govt of India from January 2017 to September 2018 before joining here at the regulator as a member.

Her appointment will be effective from Wednesday for a "period of three months or till the appointment of regular Chairperson or till any further orders, whichever is the earliest," according to an official order.

Gupta had taken over as the CCI chairperson in November 2018. She has done her master's from the Delhi School of Economics (DSE) in 1980 and her graduation in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College for Women in 1978.
