New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has transferred Badam coal block, situated in Jharkhand, to state-run NTPC, the public sector undertaking (PSU) said on Tuesday. "The coal block, earlier allocated to Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL), has been given to NTPC after it acquired the Barauni thermal plant from BSPGCL in December 2018," the firm said in a press release.

NTPC now possesses 10 coal blocks

With this coal block, NTPC currently possess 10 coal blocks: Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu (including Chatti Bariatu-South), Kerandari, Dulanga, Talaipalli, Bhalumuda, Banai, Mandakini-B, Badam and Banhardih (being developed by PVUNL, a joint venture company of NTPC and the state government of Jharkhand). The coal blocks have a total estimated geological reserve of over 7.3 billion tonnes and production potential of about 113 million tonnes (MMT) per annum. The state-owned company has also made substantial progress in coal mining and about 7.31 MMT coal was extracted from Pakri-Barwadih and Dulanga mines in the last financial year. NTPC has set a target to produce 10.4 MMT of coal in this financial year.
