New Delhi: Maharatna steel PSU Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has cancelled the written examination for Junior Officer's post for its plants/units, SAIL's Director (Personnel) KK Singh said in an official letter dated December 23. As per the letter accessed by PSU Watch, the results have been cancelled as precautionary measures taken by the steel giant.

The letter accessed by PSU Watch stated, "As you are aware, the results of written examination for selection as Junior Officer's posts at SAIL Plants/Units has been cancelled. This remedial action would not have been possible without the pre-emptive actions by team Bokaro Steel Plant. I would like to congratulate the concerned officials at BSL, led by Shri Pawan Kumar, CGM I/c (personnel), who have remained vigilant throughout the process and taken the initiative to reveal the discrepancies. This would not only help SAIL in bringing systemic improvements in the overall exercise but also go a long way in reinforcing the faith of our employees in the sanctity of the selection process."

According to a source who spoke to PSU Watch on the condition of anonymity, "The management has confirmed some wrongdoing in the written examinations for the said post and has immediately moved to cancel the results. Since the weightage of written examinations is more (60 percent) in comparison to the interview in the final selection of candidates, it made sense to cancel the results so that no candidate who is not suitable for the job gets in."

It is not yet known whether SAIL has initiated an inquiry into the matter and when will the exams be rescheduled. PSU Watch has reached out to the SAIL management for an official comment. And this story will be updated when a response is received.
