New Delhi: India's telecom industry is a key infrastructure critical for the success of Industry 4.0 and Digital India initiative, Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash said on Monday. Prakash inaugurated the three-day India Mobile Congress (IMC) – 2019 in New Delhi. "Telecom is a key infrastructure sector and critical for the success of Industry 4.0 and Digital India," the top official said and added that modern industries would ride on telecom networks.

Speaking at the event, Prakash also read out a text message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which the latter said that this year's event theme was closely related to the lives of people.

The 3-day India Mobile Congress opened on Oct 14

The three-day India Mobile Congress opened on Monday, with policymakers such as telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Birla group's Kumarmanglam Birla, and Reliance Jio's board member Mahendra Nahata on board. "This is a platform of coming together to showcase technology that can translate to the benefits of stakeholders, and to promote ease of living, ease of doing business and new employment opportunities," Prakash said.

Event will showcase 5G technology

The mega telecom industry event will also showcase fifth generation of 5G technology. Prakash said that 5G would be a win-win situation for industry stakeholders. According to him, the total footfall at the event is expected to be more than 100,000 with as many as 500 participating companies and 250 startups.

India Mobile Congress 2019 has been organised by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) that represents Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.
