Bhilai: A major fire was reported on Friday morning at the Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh, about 30 km away from state capital Raipur. There was no loss of life or property, the public sector undertaking (PSU) said in a statement. At least 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
The official statement released by Bhilai Steel Plant said that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire. "The fire broke out at 8.30 AM this morning. Immediately, the fire tenders were rushed to the site. There has been no loss of life or any injury. The reason for the fire is being probed," the statement read.
This is the second fire accident recorded at the steel plant within a year. Last year, in October, at least 14 people were charred to death in a blast at this steel plant. Five years ago, in June 2014, six workers at the steel plant had died in an explosion in the blast furnace. The steel plant in Bhilai is operated by state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). SAIL is India's largest steelmaker.
