New Delhi: The government said that out of the total 188 contracts signed till October last year, 122 have been signed with defence public sector undertakings (PSUs), PSUs, Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and private indigenous vendors for capital procurement of defence equipment for Armed Forces under the 'Make in India' programme. The list of defence equipment purchased includes helicopters, naval vessels, radars, artillery guns, simulators, missiles, ammunition, ballistic helmets, bulletproof jackets and electronic fuses. The government has also taken up capital procurement of defence equipment as per the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) of 2016.

"DPP-2016 focuses on institutionalising, streamlining and simplifying defence procurement procedure to give a boost to 'Make in India' initiative of the Government of India, by promoting indigenous design, development and manufacturing of defence equipment, platforms, systems and sub-systems," Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said in a press release.

"Ministry of Defence is committed to the objectives of DPP-2016 and is taking all steps necessary to realize these objectives."

"Currently, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has firm orders to manufacture platforms like Sukhoi Aircraft, Light Combat Aircraft, Dornier Aircraft, Advance Light Helicopter, Chetak and Cheetal Helicopter, which are likely to be executed in the next 3-4 years," the release added.
