New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has initiated a drive to reduce the usage of "single-use plastic" by distributing jute bags in peripheral households motivating people to shun plastic bags and care for the environment.

In the first phase of this awareness campaign, MCL will distribute 10,000 jute bags among people in Sambalpur.

The company, through its Department of Environment & Forest, is organising information camps at different locations to spread awareness of a clean environment and distributing jute bags among people.

The campaign has received encouraging responses from people, particularly the students' community.

Celebrating 30 years of excellence, MCL, a "Miniratna" PSU, has also planted over 6.5 million saplings in and around its command area spread over in Angul, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh and Sambalpur districts of Odisha.
