New Delhi: The Central Government has cleared the appointment of Mohammad Azhar Shams for the post of Director (Domestic Division) of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), a PSU under the Ministry of Railways. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shams from the date of his assumption of charge of the post on or after February 1 till the date of his superannuation i.e. February 28, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Presently, he serves as Executive Director in the same organisation.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported when Md Shams was recommended for the post of Director (Domestic Division) of CONCOR by the PESB panel on August 8, 2022. He was selected for the post from a list of five candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel on the same day.

CONCOR is a Navratana PSU under the Ministry of Railways. It is one of the PSUs that is currently under consideration for Govt's privatisation plan. The privatisation process, which involves selling 30.8 percent out of its shareholding of 54.8 percent, was initially projected to be completed in the fiscal year 2021-2022, but has since been delayed to the next fiscal year. In April 2022, the Govt reduced Indian Railways' land licensing fee from 6 percent to 3 percent of the land's market value, which was done to assist the company's privatisation.
