New Delhi: Through the e-drishti portal of the Indian Railways, passengers will now have an online facility to view how meals are being cooked and packed at railway kitchens. Launched by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the user-friendly website will allow travellers to view information on railway earnings and train punctuality, with an option to make and track complaints.
"The dashboard provides a facility to view live feeds from cameras installed in various IRCTC base kitchens. Passengers can now view how the food being served to them in trains is being cooked and packed," a Railways release said.
"Passengers can view and avail the status of any digital service offered. Rail Drishti consists of 6 services, namely, PNR enquiry, ODC application enquiry, complaint enquiry, tender enquiry, shramik enquiry and freight-related enquiries. For citizen's convenience, links to eight important railway websites are available here," the release said.
The Railways will also fix barcodes on food served to its passengers to let them know where and when the food was cooked.
Additionally, workers indirectly employed by the Railways as contract employees will get benefits, including provident fund, minimum wages, employee state insurance corporation benefits, in case they don't get the due benefits from their employees.
"Our capital investment is about Rs 1,58,000 crore, which includes lots of contract work like house-keeping. As we increase WiFi connectivity across the country, hopefully, the public will be able to access all kinds of information like wait-listed tickets and train ticket availability through the website," he added.
