NTPC Limited to build 520 MW hydro-power projects in Himachal

NTPC Limited has signed the MoU with Himachal Pradesh to set up two hydro-power projects in the state of a total capacity of 520 MW on Wednesday

New Delhi: NTPC Limited, the largest power producer, a Mahtaratna PSU under the Ministry of Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Himachal Pradesh state government to set up two hydro projects in the state. According to the MoU signed with the state, NTPC Limited will set-up two hydro-power stations of a total capacity of 520 MW in the Himachal Pradesh.

The MoU was signed in a power conclave, organised by the Himachal Pradesh state government in Shimla on Wednesday. The MoU was signed by Himachal Pradesh's Principal Secretary (Energy) Prabodh Saxena and NTPC's Director (Commercial) AK Gupta in the presence of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur, Himachal Pradesh's Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Chief Secretary Himachal Pradesh Shrikant Baldi and other officials and dignitaries presented in the conclave.

Other hydropower projects in Himachal

Seli & Miyar HEPs are located in Chenab Basin at Lahaul & Spiti district. While Seli HEP (400 MW) is a Run of River Project with pondage scheme, Miyar HEP (120 MW) is a Run of river project without pondage scheme, on Miyar tributary of Chenab River.

NTPC presence in Himachal Pradesh

NTPC already has its presence in Himachal Pradesh with Koldam Hydro Power Station, the first hydro-power project of NTPC, with an installed capacity of 800 MW. The power station is commercially operational since July 2015 and provides 28 percent power to the state of Himachal Pradesh.
