Power Grid establishes Centre of Excellence at Punjab Engineering College

New Centre of Excellence at PEC aims to strengthen research and academia-industry collaboration in sustainable energy solutions

Chandigarh: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) establishes a Centre of Excellence at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. This facility is aimed at promoting innovation, research and skill development in the power sector, the power giant said in an official statement.

According to Power Grid, this project is implemented at an approximate cost of Rs 17.19 crore under an MoU signed between Power Grid and PEC on June 6, 2025.

The Centre of Excellence is designed to support research and development, address emerging technological challenges in the power sector and help develop a skilled workforce suited to the industry's evolving requirements. It is also expected to strengthen PEC's academic and research ecosystem while promoting innovation and sustainable practices.

The facility benefits students, researchers and academic communities from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and other regions.

During the handing-over ceremony, Power Grid's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra formally hands over the Centre of Excellence to PEC Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia. Senior officials from Power Grid and PEC are also present.

Burra reiterates Power Grid's commitment to using CSR initiatives to promote education, research and innovation, stressing that stronger academic and research infrastructure is essential for developing future talent and a future-ready workforce.

Bhatia expresses gratitude for Power Grid's contribution, saying the Centre is expected to promote advanced research, skill development and industry-academia collaboration for students, faculty and researchers.

The initiative adds to Power Grid's wider CSR efforts spanning education, healthcare, community development and infrastructure, with the company positioning such programmes as part of its contribution to inclusive and sustainable development.
