Pradip Kumar Das appointed as CMD of IREDA

The ACC has approved the appointment of Pradip Kumar Das as CMD of IREDA for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Pradip Kumar Das as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). According to an order issued on May 1, he has been appointed to the post for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earlier. Currently, he is serving as Director (Finance) at Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Pradip Kumar Das was recommended for the post of CMD of IREDA by a PESB panel on August 2, 2019. He was selected from a list of seven candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. Currently, Bhanu Pratap Yadav, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE),  holds the additional charge of IREDA CMD.

Background

The Ministry of Tourism had appointed Pradip Kumar Das as Director (Finance) on February 25, 2016. Under his leadership, Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) became the only public sector undertaking under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism to begin trading under the trade-for-trade segment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Before joining ITDC, he was working with Rural Electrification Corporation as Deputy General Manager.

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) is a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). It was established as a non-banking financial institution in 1987. IREDA is engaged in promoting, developing and extending financial assistance for setting up projects relating to new and renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency and conservation.
