Radhashyam Mahapatro joins NALCO as new Director (HR)

Bhubaneswar: Radhashyam Mahapatro has taken over as Director (HR) of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, on January 1. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as Director (Personnel) of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a Miniratna PSU and a subsidiary of Coal India.

PSU Watch had reported that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved Mahapatro's appointment on December 16. He was recommended for the post of Director (HR) of NALCO by a Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on August 20. He was selected from a list of two candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel. With his new appointment, Mahapatro has replaced Basant Kumar Thakur.

Education & achievements

Mahapatro has rich experience in power, oil and coal sectors in different capacities and has successfully shouldered varied and higher responsibilities. He is a Physics Graduate from Khallikote College, Brahmapur, Odisha, and has done his Post Graduation in Industrial Relation and Labour Welfare from Berhampur University. Mahapatro has handled many areas of HR functions. During his tenure with NHPC, Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), he was instrumental in the introduction of productive work culture through teamwork.

Mahapatro's areas of interest include improving productivity, human development, creation of employment through skill development, sports, culture and improvement of human dignity. He has passionately worked for reformation in administration to make it responsive to the needs and aspirations of the communities. His forte includes transparency, leadership and teamwork. His induction into the NALCO Board shall further strengthen the company.
