Revenue of railways up by 73% in passenger segment: Rail Min

The total approximate earnings in passenger segment for Indian Railways during April to January 2023 is Rs 54,733 crore, registering an increase of 73%

New Delhi: The total approximate earnings in passenger segment for Indian Railways on originating basis during April 2021 to January 2023 is Rs 54,733 crore, registering an increase of 73 percent in comparison to Rs 31,634 crore achieved during the same period last year, stated the Ministry in a statement.

'Total number of passengers in reserved passenger segment remained 6,590 lakhs contributing revenue of  Rs 42,945 cr'

"In reserved passenger segment, the total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period April 1 to January 31, 2023 is 6,590 lakhs as compared to 6,181 lakhs during the same period last year, showing an increase of seven percent," said the ministry.

"The revenue generated from reserved passenger segment during the period April 1 to January 31, 2023 is 42,945 crores as compared to 29,079 crores during the same period last year, showing an increase of 48 percent," it added.

'Total number of passengers in unreserved passenger segment remained 45,180 lakhs contributing revenue of  Rs 11,788 cr'

"In unreserved passenger segment, the total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period April 1 to January 31, 2023 is 45,180 lakhs as compared to 19,785 lakhs during the same period last year, showing an increase of 128 percent," said the statement.

"The revenue generated from unreserved passenger segment during the period April 1 to January 31, 2023 is Rs 11,788 crores as compared to Rs 2,555 crores during the same period last year, showing an increase of 361 percent," it added.
