RINL-VSP gets ‘Twin Ladle Heating Furnace’

RINL-VSP has installed a 'Twin Ladle Heating Furnace' in Steel Melting Shop-2 to cater to the enhanced liquid steel production of the steel plant

Visakhapatnam: RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has installed a 'Twin Ladle Heating Furnace' (TLHF) to enhance the steel production, in its Steel melting Shop-2. The Furnace was inaugurated by RINL-VSP's Chairman and Managing Director PK Rath on Wednesday. The TLHF has built at a cost of Rs 109 crores in the existing Steel Melt Shop-2 area of VSP.

While lauding the collective effort of the projects wing team, Steel Melting Shop-2, Rath said the commissioning of TLHF would enhance the production capabilities of RINL.

On the occasion RINL's Director (Personnel) KC Das, Director (Commercial), DK Mohanty, Director (Projects) KK Ghosh, Director (Operations) AK Saxena, Executive Director (Projects), I/C, R Nagarajan,  Executive Director (Works), I/c, KV Vidyasagar senior officials and representatives of unions, SEA, SC&ST, OBC association were present.

Benefits of this furnace?

The new facility is installed to cater to the enhanced liquid steel production after expansion to 7.3 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) from 6.3 Mtpa phase. 'Twin Ladle Heating Furnace' is envisaged to strengthen the secondary metallurgy section of Steel Melting Shop-2, to increase the temperature of the molten steel and adjustment of the chemical composition to optimize the process route. Commissioning of TLHF will benefit in the production of high-value-added steel (VAS) products. The TLHF has the capacity to process 40 heats per day from both the heating furnaces.
