New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sanjay Kumar as Director (Tech-LWR) in the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), a state-run PSU under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Kumar has been appointed on NPCIL board with effect from the date of his assumption charge of the post till the date of his superannuation i.e. November 30, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He is currently serving as Outstanding Scientist in the same organisation.
Kumar is a mechanical engineer. He has completed his bachelor's of engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Bihar Institute of Technology, Sindri, Dhanbad, in 2002. He started his professional carrier as Scientific Officer in Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) in 2003 after one-year training at NPCIL Training School. He has more than 18 years of professional work experience in the Nuclear Energy Sector.
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is a public sector undertaking (PSU) based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is wholly-owned by the government and is responsible for the generation of nuclear power for electricity. NPCIL is administered by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
NPCIL also has equity participation in BHAVINI, another PSU of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), which implements the Fast Breeder Reactors programme in the country. NPCIL is responsible for design, construction, commissioning and operation of nuclear power reactors. NPCIL is a profit-making and dividend-paying company with the highest level of credit rating (AAA rating by CRISIL and CARE). It is presently operating 22 commercial nuclear power reactors with an installed capacity of 6,780 MW.
