SJVN plans to develop renewable energy projects in Assam

New Delhi: State-owned Miniratna green PSU, SJVN Limited is planning to collaborate with the Government of Assam for the development of renewable energy projects in the state. In this rehards, SJVN's Director (Finance) Akhileshwar Singh Director met Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Wednesday.

During the meeting development of ground-mounted, floating solar, battery storage and pilot hydrogen plants in the state of Assam were deliberated. The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sameer Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary (Power) of Government of Assam Neeraj Verma and SJVN's Chief General Manager Rajesh Gupta.

Chief Minister also conveyed the keen interest of the Government of Assam in equity participation of SJVN's upcoming hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh. He further conveyed that the Government of Assam is interested in the formation of a Joint venture with SJVN for the development of hydro and renewable energy projects in the state.

The state of Assam has a vast potential to develop ground-mounted solar and floating solar power projects on existing barren land and water bodies. The Government of Assam offered SJVN an opportunity to explore 5000 MW power project development within the state in a phased manner. During the meeting, the proposal for sale of power from SJVN's Arun-3 Power Project in Nepal & Solar Power generated through the CPSU scheme were also discussed.

Singh also held meetings with the Power Minister of Assam Bimal Bora, Managing Director Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited Bhibhu Bhuyan & Chairman Assam Small Industry Development Corporation Kishore Updhyaya.
