The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed SS Sandhu, an IAS officer of 1988 batch of Uttarakhand cadre, as new Chairman of NHAI

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, an IAS officer of Uttarakhand 1988-cadre, as new Chairman of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Prior to his new appointment as Chairman of NHAI, he was serving as Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. Sandhu will replace Nagendra Nath Sinha, an IAS officer of 1987 batch of Jharkhand cadre, who was currently serving as NHAI Chairman. Sinha has now been appointed as Secretary, Department for Border Management.

This announcement was also made by ACC on the same day. In the major reshuffle, ACC also appointed Arvind Singh, an IAS officer of 1988 batch Maharashtra cadre, as new Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI).

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency of the government, set up in 1988 and is responsible for the management of a network of over 50,000 km of National Highways out of 1,15,000 km in India. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
