New Delhi: The Board of Directors of PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, has appointed Tanmay Kumar as Government Nominee Director of the company with effect from March 18. Kumar is an Indian Administrative Services (IAS 1993) officer of Rajasthan cadre. He is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power. The news was shared by PowerGrid in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.
Kumar holds a BTech degree in civil engineering from llT-Delhi and an MTech in Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering from llT, Delhi. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power, he is looking after the transmission sector, Power System Operation Corporation Limited and Grid Integration of Renewable Energy. He has served in various capacities in the government of Rajasthan for almost 27 years. He has worked as Chairman of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC) for five years. He has a rich and varied experience in the power sector. In addition to this, Sanjay Malhotra and SKG Rahate, who were serving as Government Nominee Directors in PowerGrid have ceased to be Directors on the board with effect from March 16, the filing added.
PGCIL is a state-owned electric utility company headquartered in Gurugram. The company transmits about 50 percent of the total power generated in India through its transmission network. Its former subsidiary company Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) handles power management for the national grid and all state transmission utilities.
