New Delhi: Umesh Sinha has been re-appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner for a period of one year, said an order from the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) on Monday. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his re-employment as Deputy Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India (ECI) on contractual basis for a period of one year with effect from January 1, 2020, up to December 31, 2020, or until further orders, whichever is earlier on usual terms and conditions.

Umesh Sinha is a 1986-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of Utter Pradesh cadre. He has been serving as Deputy Election Commissioner (Secretary Level), Election Commission of India, since October 31, 2014.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy Election Commissioner at Election Commission of India, he was serving as Chief Election Officer and Principal Secretary in Election Department of Uttar Pradesh.

Hailing from Dhanbad (Jharkhand), he has served at various administrative level positions in the state government of Uttar Pradesh.
