New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government allocated a fund of Rs 2,000 crore on Tuesday for the Jewar airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar. The announcement was made by UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna while presenting the Budget in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
"A budget of Rs 2,000 crore has been proposed for the Noida International Greenfield Airport in Gautam Buddh Nagar's Jewar. The airport is expected to go operational by 2023," Khanna said in his speech. The UP government presented a Rs 5,12,860.72-crore budget for FY 2020-21 in the state assembly.
Jewar International Airport or Noida Airport is a proposed airport to be constructed in Jewar (56 Km from Noida) in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is the implementing agency on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh state government.

The airport is to be developed on a public private partnership model (PPP). The proposed plan is to build a two-runway airport by 2022-23 and then, at a future date, to extend it to a 7,200-acre six-runway airport. According to the proposed plan, the airport will handle 5 million passengers per annum (MPA) initially and up to 60 MPA after expansion over 30 years.
The fund allocation comes as the Gautam Buddha Nagar district took possession of the last remaining parcel of land of 18.5 hectares from local farmers in January for the first phase of the Jewar airport project. A total of 1,334 hectares of land has now been handed over to YEIDA in a record time of seven months. For land acquisition, over Rs 3,067 crore has been disbursed as compensation so far. Out of this, Rs 2,689 crore has been paid directly to farmers, and a little over Rs 378 crore has been disbursed to their accounts through a tribunal.
