AAI Chairman Arvind Singh (IAS) appointed as Secretary of Ministry of Tourism

Arvind Singh (IAS), who is currently serving as Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI), has been appointed as new Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism

New Delhi: Airports Authority of India's (AAI) Chairman Arvind Singh (IAS) has been appointed as new Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Singh's appointment as Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism on January 23. With his new assignment, Singh will replace Yogendra Tripathy (IAS), who has been appointed in the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals. Singh will take charge on February 1.

Arvind Singh is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Maharashtra cadre. He has been serving as Chairman of AAI since November 6, 2019. Prior to taking over as Chairman of AAI, he was serving in his home cadre Maharashtra.

Arvind Singh's career

Arvind Singh joined the Indian Administrative Services in 1988, after studying economics at St Stephen's College and the Delhi School of Economics. His first assignment was as Assistant Collector at Aurangabad in Maharashtra from 1990-1992. Later, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Aurangabad Zila Parishad from 1992-94 and as Chief Executive Officer of Nagpur Zilla Parishad from 1994-96. At Nagpur, he also served as Member Secretary of the Vidharbha Statutory Development Board from 1996-97. During 1997-98, he worked in the office of the Chief Secretary, Maharashtra, at Mumbai before moving to Kolhapur as District Collector from 1998 to 2001.

Ministry of Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism, a branch of the government, is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules, regulations and laws relating to the development and promotion of tourism in India. It facilitates the Indian Department of Tourism. The head of the ministry is Minister of Tourism, a Minister of State (Independent Charge), held by Prahlad Singh Patel since September 2017.
