New Delhi: State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) has earned Rs 30,069 crore from its joint venture and PPP (public private partnership) airports until FY21, said Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation VK Singh on Thursday. In a written response shared in the Lok Sabha, General Singh also said that the AAI Board of Directors has approved the privatisation of Operations, Management and Development of six airports — Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, Amritsar, Raipur, Indore and Trichy — in the next phase.
In the first phase, the AAI had awarded six airports — Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru for Operations, Management and Development under Public Private Partnership (PPP) for a period of 50 years.
Sharing the Centre's revenue collection figures, Singh said that the government has earned approximately Rs 846 crore by way of Guarantee Fee, Income Tax and Goods & Services Tax (GST) from the airports run by the AAI during the year 2020-21. From Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL) and Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), it has earned Rs 856 crore as concession fee in FY2020-21.
For the next round of leasing of AAI airports, the Centre is going to use a new approach under which a profitable airport will be clubbed with a loss-making airport. In her Budget speech for 2021-22, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the government will privatise airports in tier II and III cities in 2021-22.
