ACC appoints Vinay Ranjan as Director (Personnel & IR) of Coal India

Vinay Ranjan, who is currently serving as Director (Personnel) of Eastern Coal Limited (ECL), has been appointed as Director (Personnel & Industrial Relations) of Coal India Limited (CIL)

New Delhi: The government has cleared the appointment of Vinay Ranjan for the post of Director (Personnel & Industrial Relations) in the Coal India Limited (CIL) on Monday. According to an order from the Ministry of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ranjan for the post. Further, he has been appointed to the post for a period of five years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or till the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earlier. Ranjan is currently serving as Director (Personnel) in the Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a Coal Indian subsidiary under the Ministry of Coal.

PSU Watch was the first news organisation to report when Ranjan had been recommended for the post of Director (Personnel & IR) of CIL by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on April 27. He was among eight candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel. Currently, CIL's Director (Marketing) SN Tiwary is holding the additional charge of the said post.

Ranjan is an alumnus of INSEAD Business School and passed out from Fontainebleau, France, with a general management program. He is an Honours graduate in Physics and holds a full-time PG Diploma in Personnel Management & Industrial Relation. He had joined ECL as Director (Personnel) in August 2018. Prior to this, he was holding the position of Corporate Vice President & Head HR of DB Power Ltd., A Dainik Bhaskar Group Company based in Mumbai.

Ranjan has close to 27 years of extensive work experience in Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Performance Management, Employer Branding, Compensation Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Change Management, Employee Engagement, Industrial relations and Training & Development. He has also successfully extended HR support to overseas entities at different geographies. He led the team for two full life cycle SAP HR implementations, first at TATA Communication, erstwhile VSNL, with implementation partners TCS and thereafter deputed for another cycle at Tata Teleservices Ltd. owing to his expertise.

As Director (Personnel & IR), Ranjan will be a member of the Board of Directors of Coal India and will report to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). As the head of the Personnel Division, he will also be responsible for the formulation and implementation of personnel policies of Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries.
