AL Prabhakar (IRSS) assumes charge as the new CVO of NLCIL

New Delhi: AL Prabhakar (IRSS) is the new Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of NLC (India) Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal. Prabhakar is an Indian Railways Stores Service (IRSS) officer of 1990-batch and currently holding charge as CVO of Madras Fertilizers Limited (MFL), Chennai. He has been given additional charge of the post of CVO, NLCIL for a period of six months or till the appointment of a regular CVO or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has assumed office on October 12.

Prabhakar's background

Prabhakar started his career working briefly in HPCL before moving to Southern Railway.  He is a Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) Officer belonging to the cadre of IRSS, having cleared UPSC Engineering Services in 1988. Possessing more than three decades of experience, he has held posts in diverse fields like Material Management, Information Technology, Head of Training Institute, Vigilance etc. 

Among others, the important posts he has held are Regional Railway Manager (RRM), Karwar region of Konkan Railways, Secretary to General Manager, Southern Railway and Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM), Chennai Division, Southern Railway.  He has been impaneled for the post of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and as Joint Secretary to Government of India.  He holds the unique distinction of developing a Training Simulation Software for the training of Station Masters in Panel and Block working.  He is an accomplished sportsman having represented his University in Table Tennis and Junior as well as Senior District Teams in Cricket. He is also a Badminton player and has won several intra-railway championships.

NLC India Limited

NLC India Limited, formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited is a 'Navratna' PSU company in the fossil fuel mining sector in India and thermal power generation. It was incorporated in 1956 and was wholly owned by the government of India. It annually produces about 30 million tonne lignite from opencast mines at Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India and at Barsingsar in Bikaner district of Rajasthan state. The lignite is used at pithead thermal power stations of 3,240 MW installed capacity to produce electricity. Its joint venture has a 1000 MW thermal power station using coal.
