Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: 2×10 MVA GIS substation inaugurated in Bihar under IPDS scheme

New Delhi: As part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,' a 2×10 MVA GIS substation was inaugurated in Purnia, Bihar under the IPDS scheme (Integrated Power Development Scheme) of the government. A gas-insulated substation (GIS) is a high voltage substation in which the major structures are contained in a sealed environment with sulfur hexafluoride gas as the insulating medium. The 2×10 MVA GIS Substation was commissioned by North Bihar Power Distribution Co Ltd (NBPDCL). Power Finance Corporation (PFC) is the nodal agency for the project executed under the IPDS scheme.

The inauguration ceremony is part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, marking 75 years of India's independence. It was attended by officials from North Bihar Power Distribution Co. Ltd (NBPDCL) and PFC.

2×10 MVA GIS Substation for Purnia was sanctioned in 2018 under the IPDS scheme with a sanctioned cost of Rs 8.99 crore, with a grant of Rs 5.40 crore from the government. The GIS Substation was declared complete on April 6, overcoming the challenges posed by the prevailing COVID-19 situation.

The GIS Substation commissioned under the IPDS scheme will benefit approximately 3.26 lakh people of Purnia and the surrounding areas. It will further reduce the land requirement and will lower the operational and maintenance cost and will also provide a safe working environment for the attending personnel.
