Baban Singh assumes additional charge as Director (Technical) of WCL

New Delhi: Baban Singh has assumed additional charge as Director (Technical) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) on February 10. Currently, he is serving as Director (Technical) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL). He has been given additional charge of the post for a period of six months with effect from February 8, or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Earlier, Manoj Kumar, who had taken over as CMD of WCL on January 1, was serving as Director (Technical) in WCL.

Baban Singh's career

Baban Singh graduated from ISM Dhanbad in 1985. He holds an MBA degree in Human Resources. He has worked in various capacities in the opencast and underground mines in Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). Prior to taking over as Director (Technical) of MCL, he was serving as General Manager of Chirimiri area of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL).

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL)

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) is one of the eight subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL). It has its registered office at Nagpur (MH). WCL has been conferred "Miniratna" status on March 15, 2008. The company has contributed about 6.7 percent of the national coal production during 2014-15. It has mining operations spread over the states of Maharashtra (in Nagpur, Chandrapur and Yeotmal districts) and Madhya Pradesh (in Betul and Chhindawara districts). The company is a major source of coal supplies to the industries located in western India in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and also in Southern India, in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
