Biswajit Basu set to be next Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited

Biswajit Basu, who is currently serving as Chief General Manager, has been recommended for the post of Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited

New Delhi: Biswajit Basu is set to be the next Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited, a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Power. He has been recommended for the post by a Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) Panel on Wednesday. Currently, he is serving as Chief General Manager (CGM) in the same organisation. With his new assignment, Basu will replace Ratish Kumar, who has been with NHPC since October 1982.

Basu has been recommended for the post of Director (Projects) from a list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. There were seven candidates including Basu, who were from NHPC Limited, two candidates were from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), and one each from NTPC Limited and NTPC GE Power Services Pvt. Limited.

As Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited, Basu will be responsible for project planning, execution and contracting. He will also assist the CMD to ensure proper administrative and technical control of the projects and their timely execution.

Basu's profile

Basu is an Engineering Graduate (BE) in Electrical Engineering from Tripura Institute of Technology. Basu joined NHPC Limited in February 2016 as Chief Engineer at Chamera Hydroelectric Power Station and was later promoted as General Manager and CEO of Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Co. Ltd.

NHPC Limited is a hydropower generation PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. Earlier, it was known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The company was incorporated in the year 1975 with an authorised capital of Rs 2,000 million and with an objective to plan, promote and organise an integrated and efficient development of hydroelectric power in all aspects.
