New Delhi: Brijendra Pratap Singh is set to be the next Director in-charge of Steel Authority of India's (SAIL) Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel, the head hunter for PSUs, on Friday. He is currently serving as Executive Director in the same Maharatna Steel PSU.

Singh has been recommended for the post of Director in-charge of SAIL's Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants from a list of eight candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel, in its selection meeting held on January 28. Out of eight candidates, six candidates were from SAIL and one each from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and MECON Limited.

Singh will be the first Director in-charge of SAIL's Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants as the Ministry of Steel had restructured the Management of SAIL. Earlier, there were four posts of the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of 4 integrated steel Plants of SAIL. In September 2020, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had given its approval for restructuring of the SAIL Board. Under which four posts of CEOs of steel Plants were elevated as functional directors, by designating them as Directors-in- charge of Bokaro, Rourkela, Bhilai and one Director-in-charge jointly for Burnpur and Durgapur steel Plants.

As Director in-charge of SAIL's Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants, Singh will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report to Chairman. He will be overall in-charge of Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants and will be responsible for the efficient functioning of the Plants and the concerned mines for achieving the corporate objectives and performance parameters. He will also be responsible for project implementation at the plants or concerning mines and for marketing or sales of products from the Plants or concerned mines.
