Budget 2021 increases investment by power PSUs by over 19% to Rs 59,990 cr

New Delhi: In Budget 2021-22, the government has increased total investments by power PSUs by over 19 percent to Rs 59,990.52 crore, up from the revised estimate (RE) of Rs 50,311.03 crore in the current fiscal year. The power PSU which has witnessed the biggest bump in investment is REC Limited, for whom the figure has been revised from Rs 5,500 crore in budget estimates (BE) in FY2020-21 to Rs 9,300 crore in FY2021-22. This marks an increase of 69 percent.

Total expenditure for Power Ministry pegged at Rs 15,322 cr

According to the Budget 2021-22 document, the total expenditure for the Ministry of Power has been pegged only slightly higher at Rs 15,322 crore for FY2021-22 in comparison to the revised estimate of Rs 10,835.13 crore for the current financial year. The BE for FY2020-21 was Rs 15,874.82 crore.

Power Grid's investment for FY22 reduced to Rs 7,500 cr

The Budget for FY2021-22 has reduced Power Grid's investment for the next financial year to Rs 7,500 crore in comparison to Rs 10,500 crore in the current financial year. For NTPC Limited, investment has been raised to Rs 23,736 crore, up from Rs 21,000 crore for 2020-21. The investment by NHPC Limited has been increased to Rs 8,057.44 crore for the next financial year, up from the RE of Rs 5,296 crore in FY2020-21. Investment by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has been pegged at Rs 2,857.06 crore for 2021-22, which is higher when compared to the current financial year when it was budgeted at Rs 2,342 crore.

For North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), the Budget has reduced investment to 810.02 crore in 2021-22 from RE of Rs 965 crore in FY2020-21. Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) will invest Rs 5,000 crore in FY2021-22 as opposed to Rs 2,880 crore budgeted in FY2020-21. The Budget 2021 has increased investment by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) to Rs 2,730 crore in the next financial year as opposed to the revised estimate of Rs 1,828.03 crore for FY2020-21.
