Zero Net Energy Company: Coal PSUs CMPDI & CCL sign solar project agreement

In order to become a net-zero energy company, CMPDI and CCL have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for the development of solar power projects

New Delhi: Coal PSUs and subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL), Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI) and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for the development of solar power projects. "This MoA will open a new path for CIL in becoming a net-zero energy company," the Ministry of Coal said in an official statement of Thursday.

The MoA has been signed by CMPDIL's General Manager (E&M) AK Singh and CCL's General Manager (E&M) Sri V.K. Singh on behalf of their respective organisations. On this occasion, senior officials from both organisations were also present.

The parent company, CIL is marching forward to become a net-zero emissions company. The company aims to set up 14 rooftop and ground-mounted solar power projects with a combined capacity of 3GW by the 2023-24 financial year that ends in March 2024.

Earlier, CIL had formed two joint ventures to meet part of its solar power target. It has also tied up with NLC India Limited to build solar power plants totalling 1GW of capacity. It has also formed a joint venture with state-controlled utility NTPC and signed an initial pact with federal solar power agency the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Zero Net Energy (ZNE) company

Zero Net Energy (ZNE) company, is a company with net-zero energy consumption, meaning the total amount of energy consumed by the company on an annual basis is equal to the amount of renewable energy created on the site.
