New Delhi: In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the second wave of infections, the National Confederation of Officers' Association (NCOA) has urged the government to extend the validity of Casual Leave (CL) granted to PSU employees for the year 2020 up till 2021. In a letter addressed to the Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, the NCOA said, "As the calendar is approaching the end, most of employees have not used their Casual Leave (CL) and may be planning to utilise it during remaining part of calendar. Any temptation of them to travel may invite risk of spread of Covid19 in CPSEs which may impact the productivity & performance."

"In view of the same it is requested to direct the CPSEs to extend the applicability of Casual Leave of Calendar Year 2020 to Calendar Year 2021," the letter added.

India witnessing second wave of Covid-19 infections

The NCOA said that India may be looking at a second wave of infections as temperature falls with the onset of the winter season. "With reduction of temperature, many cities of Europe and United States are witnessing the second wave of Covid19 and approaching winter in northern India has similar risk. Hence its very important to continue with the precautions and minimize the travel without impacting the business," said the NCOA.

"CPSEs are in the fore front to push for fuelling economic growth as per vision of hon'ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi ji… Inspite of spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the employees of CPSEs are working round the clock to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods & services across the country," the letter said. The NCOA claims to represent 2.5 lakh PSU executives cutting across sectors.
