New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said on Saturday that in the wake of the latest guidelines released by the Delhi government, it will now operate at 100 percent seating capacity from July 26. In an official statement, DMRC said, "In the wake of latest guidelines issued today by the Govt of NCT of Delhi regarding Covid containment, the general public will now be able to travel in the Delhi Metro with Full seating capacity of its coaches (which is around 50 person per coach) from 26.07.2021 onwards till further orders."
The new order regarding 100 percent seating capacity means that all seats can now be occupied by commuters. However, it does not mean 100 percent of coach capacity (which includes both seating and standing) as standing inside Delhi Metro still continued to be prohibited.
"As standing travel is still not permitted by the authorities, entry at stations will also continue to be regulated through identified gates as per the ongoing practice," said the Delhi Metro. It added that DMRC will be further examining the revised guidelines issued on Saturday and if needed, detailed guidelines from the operational point of view will be worked out and communicated accordingly.
On Saturday, the Delhi government permitted metro and buses to operate 100 percent capacity and cinema halls and theatres in the city to reopen at half of their capacity from July 26. Bars will also be allowed to reopen with 50 percent of the seating capacity from 12 noon to 10 pm. All shops will be permitted to function on all days of the week without any distinction of essential and non-essential goods and services between 10am and 8pm.
