Eastern Coalfields’ CMD PS Mishra appointed as new CMD of SECL

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the transfer of ECL CMD PS Mishra as CMD of SECL

New Delhi: Eastern Coalfields Limited's (ECL) Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) PS Mishra has been transferred and appointed as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited. Both the companies are Miniratna PSUs and subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL). The administrative Ministry, Ministry of Coal, in its notification issued on January 28, 2022, has said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the transfer of Mishra as CMD of SECL with immediate effect and for the remaining period of his tenure i.e. up to August 19, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has assumed charge as CMD of SECL with effect from January 28.

Mishra completed his B Tech (Mining) from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in the year 1987 and obtained the first-class certificate of competency in the year 1990. He has obtained a postgraduate diploma in Business Law from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata. He is pursuing PhD in Management Study from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on the topic of research "Impact assessment of Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives – A case study of Coal Mining Industry in India."

Mishra joined SECL in the year 1987 and worked in different managerial capacities in several mines of SECL for more than sixteen years. He also worked as Deputy Chief Mining Engineer/Project Officer in various open cast mines of Central Coalfields Limited for about five years. On being posted at BCCL in June 2008, he worked inter-alia as GM of Block II Area and GM of Barora Area. He was appointed as Director (Production & Planning) of Orissa Minerals Development Company Limited in November 2015.

Mishra is also an active member of the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Indian Institute of Material Management (IIMM), Indian Mines Manager Associations (IMMA), Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Indian Mining and Engineering Forum and Fellow of Institution of Engineers (FIE). He had been General Secretary of ISM Alumni Association from 2010 to 2014 and General Secretary of MGMI, Dhanbad branch from 2011 to 2015. He has convened and organised several conferences and seminars at different levels.
