EESL signs MoU with NHAI, to set up green energy projects at toll plazas, along highways

New Delhi: State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on January 8 to set up solar power projects at NHAI's structures at toll plazas. An official statement released by EESL said that it has signed the MoU to set up establish solar power projects, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and energy-efficient LED lighting at NHAI buildings/ structures at toll plazas. The MoU was signed in the presence of EESL Chairman Rajeev Sharma, RK Pandey, Member (Projects) at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other senior officials.

"The two have agreed to enter into a special relationship for implementation of energy efficiency projects, renewable energy projects and e-mobility services as a part of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to reduce dependence on fossil fuel, reduce emissions and achieve sustainable development all across toll plazas and other NHAI establishments," the statement said.

'Availability of charging infrastructure will accelerate EV adoption'

Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairperson of EESL Group, said that energy demand is increasing rapidly and India is powering ahead to a sustainability-driven future by adopting energy efficiency initiatives. Kumar added that the availability of charging infrastructure is a key requirement for accelerating the adoption of EVs.

EESL Managing Director (MD) Rajat Kumar Sud said that setting up EV charging stations along highways will boost the interest of public commuting from one city to another, enabling a smooth and sustainable transition to a future-oriented mobility solution.
