New Delhi: Engineers India Limited (EIL) and CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for development and commercialisation of technologies. The MoU was signed by CSIR-NCL's Director Prof. Ashwini Kumar Nangia and EIL's Chief General Manager & Head of R&D Division Suresh C Gupta on November 10, 2020. Subsequently, the MoA was signed on November 26 through video conference in the presence of EIL's Director (Technical) Vartika Shukla.

According to EIL, this agreement paves the way for rapid development of the following technologies integral to the emerging methanol economy: Development of technology for conversion of Methanol to Di-Methyl Ether (DME), development of technology for Methanol Synthesis from Syn gas and development of Adsorbents/Catalyst for coal-based Syn gas.

With Dimethyl Ether (DME) emerging as a new sustainable alternative and potential blend for LPG, this synergy between the catalysis & chemicals expertise of CSIR-NCL and the engineering prowess of EIL will lead to a significant reduction in the nation's LPG/Crude bill and bolster the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
