Govt appoints Sanjay Malhotra (IAS) as CMD of REC Limited

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ministry of Power’s Additional Secretary Sanjay Malhotra (IAS) as CMD of REC Limited

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of the Ministry of Power's Additional Secretary Sanjay Malhotra (IAS) as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of REC Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Power, on Tuesday. Currently, REC Limited's Director (Technical) Sanjeev Kumar Gupta holds the additional charge of CMD post since June 13. 

Malhotra's profile

Malhotra is a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre. Prior to joining as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, he was serving as Secretary in the state government of Rajasthan. He is an Engineering Graduate in Computer Science (B Tech) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. As Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, he is looking after transmission, distribution, reforms and restructuring, operation and monitoring, national electricity policy, tariff policy, CERC, APTEL, JERCs, etc.

The backdrop

In September, the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) had invited job applications from the Chief Secretaries of all state governments and the Secretaries of all the Ministries & Departments of the Union government for filling up the post of CMD (JS-level) in REC Limited.

REC Limited

REC Limited, formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, is a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Power. The company finances and promotes rural electrification projects across India. The company provides loans to the Central and state sector power utilities, State Electricity Boards, Rural Electric Cooperatives, NGOs and private power developers.
