Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has said on Tuesday that the state will be the world's first to get a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) terminal in the world, with the government according an approval to the Rs 1,900 crore brownfield project. The terminal will have a capacity of 15 lakh tonnes per annum. He said that the project will be developed by a consortium of developers, including the Padmanabh Mafatlal Group and one from the Netherlands.
Rupani said that Rs 1,300 crore will be invested in the CNG terminal in Gujarat in the first phase. After the construction of this project, Bhavnagar port's annual cargo capacity will be raised to 9 million metric tons (MMT). For the development of this terminal, dredging and construction of two lock gates will be undertaken in the channel and port basin. And infrastructure facilities will be set up on the shore for CNG transportation.

The Chief Minister also said that Gujarat will be only state in the country to have terminals for both CNG and LNG (at Dahej and Hazira). He added that the project will create employment opportunities for the youth of Bhavnagar in logistics, transportation and warehousing.
The project is part of an ambitious plan to develop Bhavnagar, where a liquid cargo terminal with a capacity of 45 lakh container and White cargo terminal and RoRo ferry services terminal, would be developed.
