New Delhi: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has felicitated the first woman POL Tanker driver Delisha Davis, giving the tinge of 'Azadi' to the Independence Day celebrations. Delisha works with HPCL.

"HPCL Irumpanam Terminal organised a special event to felicitate Delisha Davis, a 24-year-old lady tank truck driver, on her brave endeavour to venture into a tough zone of work like Petroleum Tank Truck driving" an official statement by the OMC said.

HPCL's Executive Director (SOD) Subodh Batra and Chief General Manager (Retail South Zone) Sandeep Maheshwari attended the function virtually. HPCL General Manager (O&D, SZ) R Narayana Rao and Irumpanam Terminal In-Charge Navin Kumar handed over a Honda Activa to Delisha on behalf of HPCL as a token of appreciation.

Delisha has completed her Post-graduation in commerce. Delisha took up the challenge of helping her family and aged father, Davis apart from her passion for driving. She volunteered to learn tanker driving, motivated by her father who is also a heavy vehicle driver. She received an HVD license in 2018 and a certificate in hazardous goods transportation in 2019.  During lockdown in 2020, she braved all odds and started driving the tanker at HPCL Irumpanam Terminal. 

Delisha said that HPCL is imparting regular safety training on subjects related to the handling of petroleum products. "I am not facing any difficulty at the workplace and the company is providing all required facilities for women to work safely", the first lady tank truck driver said. "I am thankful to HPCL for recognising me on the occasion of Independence Day and extremely delighted that HPCL has awarded me with a Honda Activa which will be very helpful for personal needs and further development," she added.
