Bribery case: MV Iyer gets additional charge of GAIL’s Director (Marketing) post

GAIL's Director (Business Development) MV Iyer has been assigned additional charge of the Director (Marketing) post after ES Ranganathan was apprehended by the CBI in connection to an alleged bribery case

New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited's Director (Business Development) MV Iyer has been assigned additional charge of the Director (Marketing) post days after ES Ranganathan was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection to an alleged bribery case. According to an order issued by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) on Tuesday, Iyer has been entrusted with the additional charge of the post of Director (Marketing) of GAIL for a period of three months with effect from January 18, 2022, or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has been serving as Director (Business Development) of GAIL since November 2020.

Iyer is an Electrical Engineer with 33 years of rich and diverse experience in GAIL in the execution of projects of upto Rs 40,000 crors, including current projects worth Rs 25,000 crore, spanning 16 states, 150 districts and City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects in six cities. He had earlier worked as Executive Director (Projects) at GAIL. 

He has been part of the core team of GAIL for the implementation of various long-term and short-term strategies. Iyer is also Director in one of GAIL's new Joint venture company, Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL), for the implementation of North East Gas Grid. He has been associated with several non-core business areas like commissioning of the Dabhol LNG Terminal and implementation of 100 MW Wind power project, 5 MW Solar power projects and current thrust areas of City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects within a short span of one year.

Backdrop

The CBI arrested GAIL (India) Ltd's former Director (Marketing) ES Ranganathan on January 16 in an alleged bribery and corruption case. In the FIR, the CBI said that it conducted raids at eight locations, including Ranganathan's Noida residence and his office, and recovered Rs 1.29 crore in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables. Along with Ranganathan, the CBI has also arrested four other individuals in connection to the case.
