NCL CMD PK Sinha assumes additional charge as CMD of Mahanadi Coalfields

New Delhi: Prabhat Kumar Sinha, the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), has assumed additional charge as CMD of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on Saturday. In this connection, Coal India Limited (CIL) has conveyed the approval of the Union Minister for Coal & Mines Pralhad Joshi on Saturday. Earlier to this, BN Shukla was serving as Chairman & Managing Director of the organisation, who superannuated from the services on the same day.

PK Sinha's profile

Sinha has a diversified experience of more than 37 years in opencast and underground coal mining. He was working as Director (Technical) in South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), before assuming the charge in NCL and now in MCL also. 

After obtaining a Mining Engineering degree from the Raipur Engineering College in the year 1982, Sinha started his career in South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of CIL, in the same year. Sinha had completed his M Tech from the prestigious Indian School of Mines (ISM) during the year 1986-88.  During his stints as a mining engineer in different capacities in the different subsidiaries of CIL, Sinha has not only achieved the targets set for the assigned jobs, but has also successfully handled all responsibilities related to production, productivity, and other parameters. 

Achievements 

Under his dynamic leadership, NCL had joined the elite 100 MT Coal Production Group & is being witnessed the Y-o-Y growth in different parameters. Recently NCL has bestowed with the excellent company by DPE. Sinha was Awarded COVID Warrior for his unparalleled managerial skills to handle the tough time. NCL has also received PSE Excellence awards in recent days.

Backdrop

In July, the PESB had held the interview for the selection for the CMD of the organisation but did not find any suitable candidate for the post. In its response, the board had said that they do not recommend any candidate for the post. The board had advised the Ministry of Coal to choose an appropriate course of further action for the selection, including the formation of a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC), or whatever they deem appropriate with the approval of the competent authority.
