NHPC CMD places the spotlight on glacier melting at 33rd Indian Engineering Congress

Udaipur: The CMD of state-owned National Hydropower Corporation Ltd (NHPC), Balraj Joshi, placed the focus on glacier melting/overflowing because of global warming at 33rd Indian Engineering Congress held from December 21 to December 23, 2018 in Udaipur. Joshi delivered the 61st Sir Visveshvaraya Memorial lecture on the occasion and gave a presentation on GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood). While speaking, the CMD especially acknowledged the contribution of M Visvesvaraya, the eminent Indian engineer and recipient of India's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna. The event was attended by prominent industry leaders and academicians.

NHPC Limited is a hydropower generation PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. Earlier, it was known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The company was incorporated in the year 1975 with an authorised capital of Rs 2,000 million and with an objective to plan, promote and organise an integrated and efficient development of hydroelectric power in all aspects.
