NMDC inks MoU with CSIR for developing mineral industry technology

NMDC R&D Centre and CSIR-IMMT signed an MoU to pursue joint Research and Development projects for developing indigenous technology for making the Indian mineral industry self-reliant

New Delhi/Hyderabad: NMDC R&D Centre and CSIR-IMMT signed an MoU to pursue joint Research and Development projects. The MoU has been signed in the presence of NMDC's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Sumit Deb and CSIR-IMMT's Director Dr S Basu on September 26 at IMMT Bhubaneswar. The primary focus of the collaboration between NMDC and CSIR-IMMT will be the development of indigenous technology for making the Indian mineral industry self-reliant.

The joint venture will utilize the vast knowledge and experience of CSIR-IMMT and NMDC R&D centre for research in the area of low & lean grade iron ore processing, beneficiation of coal, utilisation of mines waste, slurry transportation and recovery of Tungsten.

The MoU has been signed by NMDC's General Manager (R&D) SK Chaurasiya and CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar's Chief Scientist & Head SPBD Dr Ashok Sahu. NMDC R&D Centre was set up in 1996 and has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence in the field of mineral processing by UNIDO. Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is a cutting-edge R&D organisation known for its knowledge base in diverse Science & Technology fields.

Commenting on the occasion, Deb said, "While the Indian mining sector enters an era of self-reliance, NMDC is making investments to enhance the use of indigenous technology in mining. This collaboration with CSIR-IMMT is a significant step in that direction."
