2 October: NMDC celebrates Gandhi Jayanti with school children

New Delhi/Hyderabad: NMDC Limited celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on Saturday at its head office in Hyderabad. This year's Gandhi Jayanti also marks the 7th year of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan celebrations in India. NMDC's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Sumit Deb the Chief Guest inaugurated the programme where NMDC's Director (Technical) Somnath Nandi, NMDC Chief General Manager (Personnel and Law) K Praveen Kumar senior officials and employees were present.

While addressing the gathering, Deb highlighted that NMDC's core value of responsible mining is derived from the principles of Gandhi and in its service to the nation the company is dedicated to building a self-reliant India.

Commenting on the occasion, Deb said, "To honour Gandhi's vision for independent India, we must come together and devote our resources towards a Clean India, Green India. The relevance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a tribute to Gandhi finds greater significance this year with the ongoing Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav."

NMDC is organizing a Mega Chess Tournament on October 2 and October 3, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The event commenced with a quiz and an interactive session with students on the country's journey to independence and beyond. "Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was a national leader of our times who inspired young children to live up to the ideals of Gandhiji and serve the nation," said Sparsh, Grade VIII student from Delhi School of Excellence.

Deb inaugurated the Chess Tournament and encouraged the spirit of creativity and innovation in the future generation of India. School children from Hyderabad and Secunderabad competed in three categories – Sub Junior (Class I to V), Junior (Class VI to VIII), and Senior (Class IX to XII). NMDC will be conducting various sports, academic and cultural events in the run-up to India@75. The Navratna PSE has also associated with Grace Cancer Foundation and will be organising a marathon in Hyderabad on October 10.
